PERAK AND SELANGOR TIE FOR THE LEAD AT THE OPENING ROUND OF THE INAUGURAL ETIQA MALAYSIA CUP

Selangor and Perak tie for the lead at the Opening Round of the Inaugural Etiqa Malaysia Cup with 4-under par 68 team total. The tournament is currently underway at Kelab Golf Seri Selangor.

Selangor is represented by national players Mohamad Iszaimi and Mohamad Iylia Jamil while Perak is represented by brothers; Low Khai Loon and Low Khai Jei.

This tournament is the brainchild of MGA President, Datuk Robin Loh and Etiqa has generously come on board as the Title Sponsor. As the host nation for the 50th Putra Cup, Datuk Robin has taken over the post of President of Asean Golf Federation from Rungsrid Luxsitanonda, President of the Thailand Golf Association. His intention is to create a tournament for the benefits of the ASEAN countries of a world cup format called ASEAN Cup. In order to select the Malaysian team for the ASEAN Cup, he proposed to organize this Malaysia Cup so only the best Malaysian players will represent the country.

The format of play follows that of the World Cup whereby on the first and third days are four-ball (best ball) plays while for the second and final days are foursomes (alternate shots) play. The lowest total point of 4 days will be the winners and carry the Malaysian flag at the Etiqa ASEAN Cup with all expenses paid for.

Third place belongs to Kelantan represented by Mohd Azlizam Zakaria and Mohd Azran Othman and Sabah represented by Lam Yu Shuen and Chin Jun Nian with team score of 2-under 70.

For the inaugural event, a total of 10 states took part in the inaugural event and they are Perak, Selangor, Kelantan, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, Kedah, Melaka, Perlis and Johor.
